There is something powerful about revisiting the girl you used to be- the one who sang too loud, dreamed too big, and danced like she wasn't afraid of anything. For the second chapter of my Her: Self Portrait Series, I stepped back into the spotlight, not on stage, but inside my own boudoir studio in Fort Worth.

This wasn't just another photo session. It was a tribute. A reclamation. A full-blown jazz number for the inner theater kid I spent years silencing.

From "Too Much" to Just Right

Growing up, I was told that I couldn't sing. That I was only cast as lead in one of my school plays because someone else did not audition. That pursuing art wasn't a practical route to success.

So, like a lot of us do, I tucked those dreams away. I traded sparkle for survival. But dreams don't die quietly. They wait. And when I opened my own Fort Worth boudoir studio, I unknowingly built a stage for that girl to come home.

The Scene: A Stage already set for Freedom

My boudoir studio in Fort Worth was already dressed for the occasion- dark walls, dramatic lighting, and an atmosphere thick with possibility. I didn't need to transform the space because it already feels like a stage. It always has.

For this chapter of Her, I slipped into not lingerie, but a dancer's costume- something you'd expect under the stage lights of a smoky cabaret. Think fishnets, sequins, and a little bit of attitude. I pulled my hair into a faux bob, channeling every musical I ever adored, and let the mood take over.

With songs like Cell Block Tango and All That Jazz pulsing through the air, I didn't just strike poses- I moved like I used to before I was told to tone it down. I danced for the girl who thought maybe one day she'd make it doing something she loved. And in that moment, she did.

Why This Matters (To me, and maybe to you too)

As a boudoir photographer in Fort Worth, I've seen how powerful it is to step in front of the lens- to let yourself be seen, not just as you are, but also as you are becoming. These aren't pretty boudoir photos that I am taking, well they are, but they are a reminder to people of their fire and passion. Their story.

This shoot wasn't about being sexy for someone else. It was about making peace and honoring the parts of myself that I was told were "too much." And I know I'm not the only one who's had to dim their sparkle for survival.

So maybe this is your reminder, too: the girl you used to be before society told you who to be, is still in there. She's just waiting for you, as the director, to call "curtain up."
